Day: 26

Sunday 29 June
Icecream heaven - we find dark chocolate magnums in the bar in San Luca piazza, which is open late as the locals are watching the world cup final projected onto a wall in the square. The Ecuador magnum appears to be a European delicacy, one we discovered in Greece last year on our 2nd honeymoon.
The Piazza San Luca. You can see the projector screen to the left.

Monday 30 June
We take an evening passeggiate (a little walk) through Praiano to the marina. It's a bit humid and we work up a good sweat even though we are walking nonna/grandma style and down hill. It's worth it though, the scenery through terraced gardens, grand villas etc is magnificent. We see kittens, lizards, puppy dogs on roofs and we end up on a beautiful pebbly beach.
The pebbly beach...

Dinner is at a restaurant on the water's edge, such a gorgeous setting. Alas for Dennis his rocket and parmesan turned out to be iceberg lettuce and parmesan, not quite the same really... I had fried calamari which was delicious, and of course a lemon soda. My obsession with lemon drinks started when I was pregnant and has continued ever since.

Tuesday 1 July
G & T venture into Positano alone to go shopping for a flippy flippy skirt for G. On the bus at 8:25am, Tara has her obligatory sleep on the way to Positano and for the first 1/2 hour walking around, oblivious to the numerous 'oh look at the baby - she's sleeping how cute' comments. I am still amazed how much attention a baby gets, of course ours is particularly cute :-). Even 3 older men sitting in the gelateria went positively gaga and said 'she's adorable! Look at those eyes, she's going to break someone's heart one day'. People just want to give her cuddles all the time, people in restaurants, shops etc hold out their arms to her and look longingly at me as to say 'can I hold her'?. One waitress, the gorgeous Giovanna in the Margerita Hotel restaurant local to us, almost didn't want to give her back, and when we were leaving rushed over to plant a huge kiss on each of Tara's cheeks.

Giovanna and Tara. We got our bambina back eventually :-)

Anyway back to Positano... our mission is accomplished and a happy G returns home to Praiano. Even better is the comment 'it could be a bit shorter even' from Dennis as I parade my new skirt. So shorten it I do.

Now I just need to put on enough coats of Dove Summer Glow (a slow self tanning moisturiser - a must on any summer holiday for those vampires like us who hate the sun) to cover all the mozzie bites and bruises on my legs.

I have found a new calling in life as a mozzie decoy. I might hire myself out for holidays, weddings, barmitsvas (apologies for the bad spelling)...

This evening we are treated to a fierce storm, with wonderful dark stormy skies that clear to the most beautiful colours, including a vertical rainbow. The air has been quite hazy up till now - it is so clear now we can see lights on distant coastlines that were just a glow on previous evenings. wow.

After the storm...

Random thoughts...

Grocery Prices: prices of things sometimes seem so cheap:
large bottle of water 60c, packet of wafers 50c, bottle of gatorade 1 euro.

Exercise: ok so let me tell you about all the exercise we've been doing... ... ... ok so not that much but there's not a lot of incentive when you get so hot and sticky just going for a gentle walk anytime when the sun is in the sky. We've both a few pushups, situp type exercises here and there, Dennis more than me; when Dennis gets enough sleep and wakes up early enough to beat the sun he goes for a run. Still we are both getting legs and buns of steel though just from walking around town - there is rarely a flat spot to be found and there are thousands of steps.

Miss Tara: (this is in its own section to allow for easy filtering out if reading about babies is not your thing - other than all the stuff above :-) )
She still has a runny nose after 4 weeks, seems a bit unfair to me. Tara is continuing her quest to discover how this crawling caper works and is enjoying the challenge. She's getting very comfortable being on her tummy and holding herself up with her arms and gives us big smiles at the same time. It's so fun watching her pick and choose which toy she's going to play with next, her current thing is hitting two toys or objects together.

Tara is also getting quite good at holding her water mug and having a drink and loves rusks - those two teeth make good work of a rusk. You might remember the lovely Italian gentleman I sat next to on that flight to Rome, well he suggested carrot sticks as a teething tool. You can put it in the fridge to make it cool, and if it gets too mucky just peel off another layer. Grazie Senore, Tara loves it.

Bathing Tara has been a bit interesting, being petite she conveniently fits in a bidet, laundry tub and hand basin (most places don't have a bath). We've just discovered the fun of showers, Tara just loves them and kicks her legs excitedly from start to finish even when the water runs over her face. Very handy.

She doesn't sleep as much as she was in Melbourne, now she usually has just 1 nap during the day maybe 2. We think it's because she is so intelligent and too interested in her surroundings to go to sleep :-).
